The Cricklade Country Way is a unique exciting scheme and has been planned over a number of years. The project will create a green recreational and wildlife corridor linking urban Swindon to Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park. The Cricklade Country Way will start at Mouldon Hill on the northern edge of Swindon and when it is complete, as well as enjoying the Country Park, visitors will have a number of different ways to travel between Swindon, Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park, none of which involve travelling by road.
“What a good idea - we look forward to cycling from Swindon to Cirencester off road. Good luck” “This is a fantastic opportunity that must not be allowed to pass us by. “The project offers double value for the money being requested. Firstly the heritage value of the canal and the steam railway will be greatly increased, both are likely to bring increased economic activity as has happened with other similar projects. Secondly all parts of the project, whether heritage or new recreational areas, will provide a very significant and varied leisure resource for the expanding population along the corridor.” “I believe this to be a very worthwhile project. Not only can one enjoy the countryside and the tranquillity of the canal network itself but also one can keep fit by walking far from the madding crowd and it\'s associated noise and traffic pollution. If one can commute along this route thus not adding to the usual traffic misery then this must be a bonus too.” |
By Boat The rebuilt North Wilts canal will provide an opportunity for a water bus journey at a leisurely pace from Mouldon Hill. Descending through four locks, with stops a key interchanges boats will be able to reach a new visitor mooring basin at Cricklade
By Train Extension of the Cricklade and Swindon Steam Railway will bring a station to Mouldon Hill and extend the line to the outskirts of Cricklade By Cycle Route 45 of the National Cycle Network will link Mouldon to Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park Gateway centre On Foot The North Wilts canal towpath will link Swindon to Cricklade and the shared use path on the Thames and Severn Canal will allow access to the Cotswold Water Park
