cricklade county way

Cricklade Town Council

An integral part of the Cricklade Country Way project is a new Visitor Centre adjacent to the canal at the eastern entrance to Cricklade. Cricklade, the First Town on the Thames, is also the southern gateway to the Cotswold Water Park and, with the development of the canal (alongside other Cricklade Country Way projects such as the Railway and Sustrans cycle route), will become an increasingly important tourist attraction.

Cricklade is in a unique position where the canal routes converge and the artists’ impression of the proposed moorings presents an interesting feature on entering the Town from the A419.

The Visitors Centre will be sited on the edge of 19.5 acres of recreational ground in a natural unspoilt area of Cricklade and will service the needs of visitors to the Town as well as providing sports changing facilities and will be key to the engagement of youth in developing a range of sporting opportunities.

It is proposed that the design of the Visitor Centre would mirror the historic canal roundhouses to be found on the Thames & Severn Canal, of which there are only five. The building will have a striking and attractive appearance at this canal side location.
